PONY RUNOFF
Is pony music community racist?

Here at PONY RUNOFF, we’re not afraid to explore topics that are too controversial and uncomfortable for other, less alt publications. Today, the topic in question is racism. Let’s get serious for a minute here. I present you a question that has been bothering me for some time:

Why are there no black pony musicians?

I’ll leave you to think about this for a while.

Ok, I’m back! One could argue that this is not surprising at all. My Little Pony:Friendship is Magic is mostly popular among Internet-savvy, white, nerdy, college-age demographic, which is heavily skewed toward being white. How would My Little Pony appeal to a black person anyway? After all, the only black characters in the show are Zecora and, debatably, Twilight Sparkle. Also I can already hear some of you shouting from the peanut gallery: “but what about Swagberg?”

Which conveniently brings us to the next point.

Swagberg. Colloquially known as ‘the only nigga in the game’, he is responsible for the smash hit “Pony Swag”, in which he ‘effin kills it’ with his superior gangsta flow. Some dismiss him as a one-hit wonder, but he actually has another pony track, “Sahar”, which means “Moon” in Swahili, and is a collab with NotACleverPony. But I digress.

Anyway, Swagberg had a huge fallout with bronies, and has since renounced them. Some say racial tensions might have played a part in this. He also had a widely publicised beef with a wannabe brony rapster Yelling At Cats, which culminated in Swagberg posting a video in which he proved once and for all that YAC, and white people in general, can’t rap.

The story of Swagberg demonstrates what it’s like to be a racial minority in the brony community. It’s truly a #Shame that we all can’t live together, like one huge family, despite our differences. But there is still hope. By raising awareness (such as via reblogging this post) you can do your part in making the world a better place.

Is racism prevalent among bronies?

Should ‘love and tolerate’ apply to our less privileged brethren?

Can white people rap?

Are earth ponies inherently inferior to other types of ponies?
